2000-2001 Grand Prix Race

The WOLC Grand Prix is a season-long "race," which is based on the number of Grand Prix Points ("GPP") players have earned from competition in WOLC-rated events.

For the 2000-2001 season, the WOLC will have a "new" system in place for earning GPP, as follows:

(1) Completing a round in any WOLC-rated event = 1 GPP;

(2) Completing any* WOLC-rated event = 5 GPP;

(3) For placing in any* WOLC-rated event, as shown below:

• 1st place will be worth 5GPP + 5GPP for every 5 players (or fraction thereof)

• 2nd Place will be worth the # of GPP for 1st - 5

• 3rd Place will be worth 3GPP less than 2nd Place

• 4th and lower Places will receive 3 GPP less than immediately-higher place, as long as GPP remain...
       *(1 point less prior to 5 nov 2000)

Examples:

• <6 Players enter:
        1st=10GPP, 2nd=5GPP,
        3d=2GPP

• 6-10 Players enter:
        1st=15GPP, 2nd=10GPP,
        3d=7GPP, 4th=4GPP, etc.

• 11-14 Players enter:
        1st=20GPP, 2nd=15GPP,
        3d=12GPP, 4th=9GPP
        5th=6GPP, etc.

(4) For placing in any non-pre-announced WOLC-rated event, the same formula as shown above shall be used, but amounts awarded will be divided in half (after being calculated) of the amount to be awarded had the event had at least 7-days advanced notice.

In case of ties, GPP will be awarded based on final place as determined by tie-breaks.

For "title" events and when special announcement is made, GPP awarded for placing may be increased.

Currently, the prizes for 2000-2001 GPP winner are $100-1st, $50-2nd, and $25-3rd (donated by the UPSCL), but this may increase, and there may be other prizes offered as the season progresses -- so stay tuned...
